The Kerem Tunnel allows for a an experience that is unique in terms of hiking and riding.

In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a mile from the Kerem junction.

Elkin’s ministry, which responsible for the project along with Jerusalem Municipality, said that the ministry “invests hundreds and millions of shekels each year in all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and in creating exciting attractions and ventures which connect the glorious historic history of our capital city and the future.” I would like to invite cyclists to ride a secure and modern-day route that takes the cyclist through Old Jerusalem.

נווה פריצקי “The Kerem Tunnel project is the central instrument for achieving the vision to transform the idea of transportation in Jerusalem,” Elkin stressed. “The tunnel, which is being constructed to connect to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing bicycle paths and those that will paved in the neighborhoods. It’s designed to encourage biking among its residents and promote the green movement in the capital.”

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the late 90s to relocate an important sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently being used as an infrastructure tunnel which includes the fifth waterline that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

The current works include road construction, the installation of blowers and advanced electrical and safety systems, to make the tunnel safe for the public to pass through at all times of the year.

The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to a variety of recreation sites, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium and also historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
