    The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience that should be loved by everyone.

    The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel in Israel and was opened as a part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital.

    It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. Its southern entry is located within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. נווה פריצקי The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Kerem junction.

    The opening ceremony of the tunnel, which is 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) along with hundreds of cyclists.

    Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the development of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of innovative activities and ventures that connect the glorious historical past of our eternal capital to its future… I would like to invite cyclists everywhere to take a trip and enjoy the contemporary, well-maintained road which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

    Elkin’s Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million for the project. נווה פריצקי The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

    The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 in order to transfer the main sewer from Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is located west of Sorek and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.

    Road construction, installation , and testing of electrical and safety systems are just some of the ongoing efforts to ensure that the tunnel is secure for all year.

    The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation spots such as the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium, as well as the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh. נווה פריצקי
