    Hi fellows,

Summer time has finally arrived and temperatures are increasing. My CHT on #6 is on takeoff getting to 420 degrees F despite going to 120 knots cruise climb. The other CHTs are 30-50 degrees F cooler. EGTS are about the same. Baffling is okay. Any ideas how to get this cylinder cooler?

    Thanks,

    Thomas..

Thomas-If the baffling is tight and no other obstructions are there you might check the fuel injector for that cylinder. Might be clogged? If it is clean, I would borescope to make sure nothing is going on with the exhaust valve.

Let us know what you find. I normally see on hottest days CHT’s at 380 or so as you referenced.

If this is a new issue, then yes, it might be a clogged injector. It is summer now so outside temperature does affect things like this too.

If any work was done on the engine (or an annual was just completed) you might also check the baffling. Even if none was replaced, sometimes they get moved backwords or torn. Silicon baffling should bend forwards so that it doesn’t allow air to pass over it.

The other item to inspect are the cowl flaps for proper operation. If they’re not opening as much as they should then they need to be repaired.

    Hope that helps.

The issue is rather constant. Injector and line is clear. Baffling is in good condition, but #6 is in a bad spot. Taped the oil fill door. No effect. I will post some pictures.
Did some cross-country (10h in 3 days) in 90° weather because of

Hi Everyone! Newbie just now able to get on the site. I am having the same issue as Thomas. #6 is getting up to 430 on takeoff climb now that it is getting hot, 90 degrees. In cruise, all are under 380. I am at 400ft MSL, full rich, fuel flow is almost to redline, cowl flaps wide open. Injector is clear, AP says baffeling is fine. Bore scoped the cylinder thinking maybe exhaust valve, etc. All good. Climb out at 100 mph to get gear up, reduce throttle to 25/25, and push nose over to 120-140 to climb and then 140mph cruise climb. I have GAMI injectors ordered and we are going to adjust mag timing. Any other suggestions would be great. Another questions is how do you climb out? If I get above 100 mph in my climb I have trouble getting all the gear up. Thanks!

Hello! Same issue with my new 200d #6 is hard to keep cool. Injectors good cowl flaps ok baffeling good. I switched the cold cyl injector with the # 6 not much better. I just need to watch it, Keep it cool with fuel and airspeed from the start. I need to run 2400rpm 21″ and 14+ gph to keep it under 380deg.

Hi, just finishing annual. Last year CHT of #6 was the highest as usual.
If all goes as planned I will do a post maintenance flight on sunday and we will see….

    keep you posted.

Has anyone tried to trim the intake baffle in front of #6 to allow additional cooling air? There is about a two inch lip that could be trimed down.
