Update: some tweaking of the idle mixture and the engine runs fine. Take off fuel flow ist 28,3 gal/h resulting in good temperatures and performance „as expected“ by us. Annual done and the weather is also improving.

    Keep on flying them birds!

Update: had another cylinder overhauled and all rotocaps replaced. On Runup the fuelflow was well below spec. Had the fuel control unit overhauled here in Germany. Came back with factory settings. On run-up engine stalls below 1500 rpm. Need to setup the FCU according to SB. Did anybody venture this way before and has some knowledge to share?
    I Miss flying the Meyers…

We adjusted low Pitch stop to maximum but no RPM rise. The linkage itself is quite simple to a adjust, but that is not the problem. I will measure the low pitch angle to check for a wear of the propeller. Last overhaul was 2009 and last maintenance was 2020, lubricaction of the hub.

A month before my Mitchell tach showed a malfunction, an overspeed on take off of 2900 rpm without a change in pitch tone. The new tach showed only 2600 and then 2550 on takeoff.
    I will keep you posted…

Hi Ed, do you see the hole in my foot? I almost shot me one…
No STC for our airplanes and no EASA Approval either. I will have to have him overhauled.

Thanks for pointing my nose to this minor bureaucratic problem…

    Hi Ed,

I found the upper intake mount bracket broken on my plane. Caused some vibration. Fixed it but now we chase other problems, like a leaking F&M adapter and a leaking valve cover.

    Keep the spirit up.

HI from Germany, I have the same problem. No significant leakage but still a mess after flight.
We will try again and report.

Here in Europe there are a lot of short grass runways.
Getting the Meyers down is easy in my opinion.
Takeoff performance depends on the usual factors: actual mass, wind and temperature. I have a IO 520, so power could be better. To get best climb out you need to fly with Vx over the trees and then accelerate to Vy while cleaning up. I find it uncomfortable to fly with Vx, but with any higher speed the climb out is rather shallow.

The shortest runway I flew out was EDKA with 540m (1800ft) with a train dam to the east.

Any news on doing an STC for the GFC500?

My Brittain B4 would like to retire…

The issue is rather constant. Injector and line is clear. Baffling is in good condition, but #6 is in a bad spot. Taped the oil fill door. No effect. I will post some pictures.
Did some cross-country (10h in 3 days) in 90° weather because of

    Happy Eastertime from Germany!

I wonder of we can group up to have SteinAir go for an STC.
If there is an STC, we would have less trouble getting this great AP into our planes. For me in Germany, as an EASA reg, 337s do not work.

And going back to N-Reg would terminate the world spanning Meyers distribution.

    Let me know your thoughts.

Update: While looking through the paper documents for the Annual I found a spare set of keys.

Had our local locksmith (Mr. Minit) make new ones ( 3 sets). He immediately identified them as airplane keys. Had to order them from Italy…

Thought the Meyers was the Jaguar of the skies, not the Ferrari.

    @Mark
: Can your A&P give a source for the lock? Could be added to the Maintenance Manual..

    Thanks for your input.

I have not dared without a plan for a fix.

Hoping someone had done this before…

Erratum: My Meyers has differential braking! I was so used to non-differtial that I always pressed both!
Had the hydraulics of the gear overhauled! My mechanic was impressed how well and strong manufactured the cylinders and the whole system is.

Does anybody know if the flaps have a different travel to compensate for engine torque? I thinks my right flap is a tad more down then my left.

    Fly safe.

    Hi, my 2 cents:
    What model did you buy?
If it is a D model these are the things I mention to new pilots to the Meyers:
    Read the manual!
Check and understand the trim, it can kill you.
Non differential brakes, you have to press both and then stear with the front wheel.
You will need right foot on takeoff and climb.
You need to pull her off the runway, she will not fly away. I raise the gear rather quickly to gain speed. Expect her to bottom a little when raising the flaps.
    Climb with 120kn.
To slow her down needs planning. To get below 130kn without gear extended I pull some Angle of attack, than drop the gear. That will give you flap speed.

You fly a laminar wing, so be careful loading up the wing in the pattern. Stall speed goes up fast.
Some power to the ground and then idle and she will land Like a dream.

I will endorse a young pilot to the Meyers tomorrow, really looking forward to flying her again.

    You will love her!

    Hi Tom,
I think may left main tank is leaking. Jan, the former owner had them all welded but the mechanic took off the upper skins of the wing.

Can you send me your insights and the photos to thomas_kube@me.com ?

I will have a look at the hydraulic fittings and may give you some data.

    Have a great day,

    Thomas
