Looking for a little help … I’m getting ready to do a major panel upgrade on N236M, similar to what a few others have done. Included in the upgrade is a JPI EDM 930. The problem is that JPI won’t accept the part order without a 337 covering the installation for a Meyers 200. If anyone reading this has done such an installation, or if you know someone who has, please let me know so that I can try to get a copy of their 337. Thanks!

Hope that I get a bit more help than Mark did. I hope it all worked out… what did you end up doing?
I am needing to upgrade my panel. ADSB makes us get under that panel, might as well get it all in shape. My stuff is all quite dated, and a total panel u/g could be in the works. It is a huge question to ask simply “what should I get”, but can anyone give some good guidance about total radio stack upgrades? I even need to u/g my intercom to 4 place, so everything is probably getting changed out. Any guidance on reliabilities and followup service/database upkeeps, support, etc? Any avionics or systems to stay away from?
And, would any of you be ashamed/appalled or otherwise put off with new avionics/flight instruments inserted into our nostalgic panels? I’m having a hard time convincing myself to go with a G5 digital PFD/ND even though they would be awesome addition to a flying machine. Comments, please. Thanks!

Does anyone have input about digital panel upgrades? STC’s, 337 troubles? I’ve seen pictures with nice digital instrument panels, how’d you do it? Thanks

OK… I’ve investigated PCA’s big avionics shop and “discovered” the Garmin G3x. Oh oh! Now my upgrade bill just hit the ozone, and I am really torn. Anybody done some drastic big PFD upgrade to their entire instrument panels? I may go that route if I can find some more $$. Seeking any thoughts, and many thanks again, for those of you that have already PM’d and gave good consultations!

Guys, personal message to either Ross Warner who is our fearless leader (President, Owners Assoc), Mark Young who is our almost fearless leader (VP of Owners Assoc) or Kent Atchison fearless spender with world’s most expensive Meyers. All three have complete glass panels. No fear of non retro among this group.

    Chris,

Last year I updated 2919T with Garmin 530WAAS, 2x G5s, 330ES, and 255 NAV/COM. I was able to purchase refurbished 330 and 530, new G5s and 255. All of these worked well with my older Garmin Audio panel. With this install, you are able to remove the air pump and pneumatic gyros since the dual G5s have batteries and provide back-up capability (although I left my gyro in as a back-up until the pump fails giving me option to keep HSI if one G5 fails). I also kept my KI-109 to interface with the 255.

The install cost was as much as the component prices, given the number of hours involved. The Garmin data base subscription is reasonable given the capability provided. Total cost was <$30K.

I can send pictures of the completed install if you are interested.

    Chris,

Jeff at High Desert Avionics at WJF did the install, fabulous job! Look to schedule about 6 months in advance, and it’ll take 3 times longer than promised due to demand. Worth the wait, although I did miss Benton Harbor MI and Harris Ranch CA Fly Ins …

Tom, is our 200 fleet on the Garmin AML for the G 5 or did you get a field 337?
