Mark,
Sounds like your elevator trim is now correctly rigged. It should require 4 half turns (2 full turns) from full nose down to set at take-off position.

Hi Ed,
I have a lot of IFR experience with military and airline flying but it is a bigger challenge with no autopiot or flight directer. I try to avoid actual weather approaches but practice one or two approaches on nearly every flight just in case I have to make one in actual weather. I approach the FAF at 120 mph and configure gear and flaps…[Read more] -

Does anyone know of a source for landing gear placards? I need to replace those associated with my nose gear.

I am one of the newest to the OTW’s. Sir John Lyons that posted above is one of the most venerable, having owned an OTW and a 200 for many years. His suggestion about the Betzold family is perfect. Many would probably like to see Fred, Dan or Linda’s response, so please post back here. The three of them are members. To contact them click on…[Read more]

I have adjusted the half turns slightly to get the pitch contlol pressure I like for take off and initial climb.

Prior to take off, my partner would rotate the elevator trim nob full nose down and then back eight half turns. I have recently had the elevator trim reworked and adjusted according to specks. I now rotate full nose down and then back four half turns for take off. This adjustes the gauge where it should be for take off and is a little more…[Read more]

Hi Ed,
I typically fly a little slower than most, but 100 mph on DW, 90 mph on base, and crossing the fence (just short of threshold at 85 mph works fine for me. I carry a little bit of power into the flare, and roll it off as the nose comes up. You don’t want to try to flare at 80 mph without any throttle, as it will sink through to a c…[Read more]

OTW #40 has an A-11 military type turn and bank in each of the cockpits, one of which is inop. There is a port on the side for oil. Does this oil ever require servicing? I could not find a maintenance manual for the instrument online. Wondering if I can resurrect the inop and also keep the functional one going.
Thanks Meyers brain trust,

Hey Tom! Hope all is well at Honeapath. My A&P did the same as Ed’s and it has worked flawlessly for 4 years. The prior owner and I were plagued by our step. At one point before I purchased the plane the step actuator was disconnected and the door sealed up. That A&P recommended that it not be repaired. I bought the plane with the step inop.…[Read more]

Robert,
I do have the part numbers and quantities required and multiple extra seals since I was sent a duplicate order. However, I am currently on an extended work trip and do not have access to my data or parts at this time. If you are able to wait until mid-March, I will send you a complete set of seals (or just the part numbers) at no cost.…[Read more]
