Keven, the glare shield is most definitely the overhang of the dashboard. The white lights would be mounted under to illuminate everything below in white light. They may have been removed by a previous owner? Hopes this helps. Ross

Hello Kevin. The second position for your panel light controls white light bulbs (four?) under the glare shield. Your bulbs may be burned out or a power wire detached. Ross

Happy New Year!
Hey everyone, a last-minute fly-in has been pulled together here in Florida. I would love to see you all if possible. It was late throwing together due to my Home Owners board of directors needing to approve due to our airport being private. Have spoken to a number of you who said you are coming so please ensure to click on the…[Read more]

Got a note from John Lyon pointing out an article in the most recent issue of Flying Magazine (Issue 942, October 2023).
I wouldn’t be appropriate to cross post the entire article, but I think it’s considered

Just replaced my fuel valves. I have a B model and my inboard tanks were 1/4 NPT. If your valves take a 9/16 wrench, it is the Curtis 1300 or 1600.

I’m going to try to catch up on the name tags again at the fly-in.
If you’re coming to the fly-in and you lost or don’t have a nametag, send me an email to mark.young@gmail.com.

Dusty-that’s interesting. The yokes on 196M were replaced before I acquired her with the Bonanza yokes per the 337. The autopilot is a Century III. So the 2000 install required you to turn the yokes upside down??

I’ll post an update on my install. I had a set of other work done at the time, so I don’t recall the cost of the work done specifically for the autopilot.
I previous had a century 2000 with integrated electric trim, and century altitude pre-select.
While the system was functional, I considered it a bit mickey mouse. When tuned properly, it…[Read more]

I probably should have considered this a lot sooner, but we’d like to get a sense for who will be attending the Fly-in this year in Carson City to facilitate some last minute planning that is going on. In this

Avidyne tried to hire me a few years ago. They said their biggest obstacle was getting shops to carry and recommend their stuff. When people actually try it they are sold (I was). It’s better.
For the shops Garmin is an easier sell. Customers know it and generally accept it. It works well, and they’ve done a great job building an ecosystem…[Read more]
