Dusty-that’s interesting. The yokes on 196M were replaced before I acquired her with the Bonanza yokes per the 337. The autopilot is a Century III. So the 2000 install required you to turn the yokes upside down??

Brent-meant to have responded last week. These old girls are reasonably approachable for most A&P’s with some experience in 1960’s birds like Comanches or Debonairs. My A&P did a FWF engine for me in 2017 and replaced all the hoses as well. Some gray hair is needed though IMO. If all they have been wrenching have been 172’s or Warriors, might be a bit much.

Cole-my mechanic last summer told me the filters were on back order. Lucky for me, he had one. You might call Brackett and see what CS tells you. And certainly Aircraft Spruce, etc.

Even bigger fake on WX. Going to be 84’F in NC on Thursday. Trees and plants are very confused…

My gear door issue was satisfactorily resolved and they were also able to re-weld the wing walk support on the wing inside of the flap. I dare say a lot of our fleet has busted wing walk supports. I don’t think it is an AW issue, but more of a PITA and something you need to deal with. A sign will be some flexing and creaking when you get on the walk, especially to clean the windshield.

Thomas-My understanding is the fuel flow set-up is not overly complex for the person who understands it and has done it. Who in Germany have you used in the past? Wonder if you might find a YouTube that might show it?

One thing to make sure is that you adjust your fuel flow at wide open throttle at sea level to be 10% of your rated HP. So on my IO-520 rated at 285 HP, my fuel flow at takeoff is 28+ GPH. That ensures keeping CHT’s reasonable on climb out.

That is great news Rocky. And pics of the E to share? Does it include the turbo prop engine or are you going to have to source it?

Some thoughts given the age of the engine and my experience:

My C model had a 72 Factory reman IO-520. It crapped the bed 6 years ago with a lite case and non-VAR crankshaft-the most logical solution was a factory reman. Not sure what the 73 looks like but a R&R with a factory reman is probably $55-60K if not higher if you do a prop IRAN, etc.

As always, pricing one of these is really difficult. A really decent mid time airframe with newer avionics, interior, paint and low to mid time engine is maybe going to bring $125-150K. Dean Siracusa sold a D model recently for $180K ish, but it was pristine I believe. Paint at $20K, interior at $20K, avionics at $50K and engine above is $150K. So, (and not just with a Meyers, but any vintage bird) you will have 2X plus your purchase price for an airplane you might get half ($150 + $80/2= $135K). Which is exactly where I am. I paid $67K for a 1500 hr bird in 2009 and have put interior, engine, avionics (but still a round gauge panel) and other stuff (but no paint) and have $200K+ in a nice airplane that might sell for $135K. So the long and short is you will NOT get your money out of a cheap purchase with significant upgrades.

But they are great birds. And still turn heads on the ramp with that straight tail and 6 cylinder 520…

Are you not bringing back the South Africa bird Rocky?

Looks like a good bird. If you guys pass let me know. I think your pricing logic makes sense.

Thanks Rocky. I hope it goes to someone who intends to get her flying again. They are too nice, and too rare, to be rotting away.
